Hello JessicaDeane,
Dr. Darren Russell has said that my testosterone level is at 2.5 while genetic females have a level not above 3. I am just inside the upper limit. I will be seeing Dr on Wednesday for another blood test so I will ask what the unit of measure is. I hope this clarifies the situation for you.
Best wishes,
Norah.

Hi. Testosterone blood levels are as follows,

Adult Male 13.0 - 40.0 nmol/L

Adult Female 0.5 - 3.0 nmol/L

There is a slight variation between various labs. but nothing significant.

interesting subject. can i just ask for a testosterone check at my local GP?
my libido of late is all over the place and i wonder if that is the result of lower levels of testosterone.

yep you can ..

there are a few types of testing, their is LSH/FREE/ANG.

I'd go for the "free androgens" test .. thats the one that relates on the scale of 11.0 - 40.0

but then im not doctor!

I belong to a group called CRONE which has the most informative information on hormones on the web I've found.

Apply to join here:
http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/CRONE_portal

I would recommend highly to anybody taking hormones or contemplating so, to do some research in the vast archives here.

Some points from the CRONE group which is very very salient to all genetic males contemplating HRT. There are no 'correct solutions' for MTF hormone replacement since there is no applicable research. It is all extrapolated from research into HRT for genetic females.

Secondly, as one of the very learned people there says: Your goal is physical feminization (transformation of secondary sexual characteristics), not some testosterone level.

Unfortunately, it appears to me that we have to become as knowlegable about MTF HRT as any endocrinologist, since it is a very individual process and the research to assist us along is not there. Unless you count the anecdotal and informed transsexual perspectives on groups such as CRONE.

A second resource for anyone contemplating hormones is this site:
http://www.missfiorella.com/t-girl.htm for whom the "MTF gun" has gone off. (read the site for this clever analogy)
