Dear All,
Have done "some" research and would like to organise an evening at dinner in Wollongong for all interested.
Date: 17 May 2008
Time: 8.00pm
Venue: Fontana (Italian Restaurant) {61-65 Crown Street}
Partners welcome.
The food is good.
There is some "atmosphere"
The upstairs section of the restaurant appears to be fairly "discreet" (I realise that Wollongong is still a country town and that everybody knows everybody)
It is a Saturday night so I have been asked to book a week ahead if we wish to get a table upstairs. So please, I need an indication of your attendance and how many seats you require by the 9th May
Please e-mail me at:
letishaspender@yahoo.com
If you do not receive a response within 2 days then mail me via TR.
In the event we cannot get a booking when I call on the 10th then alternative venue will be Jasmine Rice.
There is opportunity for drinks and dancing later in the night at "Ivory" a nearby dance bar.
Lots a Hugs

Thanks, Letty!
What a great opportunity! Count me in!
We all know that Wollongong is really the centre of the universe. Like equidistant between Sydney and Canberra so there is really no excuse!
Plus love that rollercoaster down the Bulli Pass.
So now we have the country pretty well covered with restaurant nights in Newcastle, Sydney (Newtown and Concord) and Wollongong. I think Canberra is sort of lifting off as well.
No excuse but to go out and have a good time with other girls.
PS I can personally vouch (with Letty) for the Ivory Night Club. Good music, good ambience and very nice ladies. Well, from what I can remember!
Cheers Jan |

Dear All,
The hours tick by, the deadline approaches and I hear silence.............
So far I have received only one expression of interest/acceptance for a proposed night out in Wollongong and that respondent is not a resident.
So Just a reminder ladies.
The proposal is:
Dinner in Wollongong.
At an Italian restaurant named Fontana (in Lower Crown Street).
The Restaurant has an upper floor that does have a cocktail bar. Because it is upstairs and the diners are not "on public view" then there is a certain amount of "discretion" or privacy.
Time: 8.00pm
Date : 17 May
Partners welcome.
Unfortunately, in order to be assured of an "upstairs" table I need to book a week in advance. So that means that I need to have some indication of attendance by 9th May. (letishaspender@yahoo.com)
There is an opportunity for drinks and dancing afterward at a nearby "dance bar" which has indicated that we are more than welcome.
So ladies of Wollongong
Get out those polishing cloths, shine the silver and gold.
Lets go dinning.
Lots a hugs

Hi Letisha.
I'd be interested in attending. I think mid-May is free in my (somewhat) empty calender!
I don't have a car, so logistics will be an issue for me! Any word on nearby accomodation by chance?
Perhaps I will copy your thread and post it in the Canberra Transgender Network Yahoo group. There may be a few girls from the ACT also willing to hit the 'gong!
Watch this space!

Hi Letisha.
Bad news from me - it's a no-go as I'm moving house that weekend! It's all a bit of a rush job and can't be put off to another date.
Sorry! I'd have liked to attend the evening - perhaps next time?
I know one other Canberra girl is unable to attend as she's working on that weekend also.

I'd definitely try to attend if you plan another night.
I just couldnt make it on that night sorry.
We need to support all efforts to establish new venues to meet up and make new friends.
Cheers

A small band of intrepid girls braved the cold snap on Saturday night to launch the inaugural Wollongong restaurant Night as organised by Letty.
A good night was had by all. I was assured the next morning that I had had a good time despite falling asleep in the Ladies!
We kicked off at the Fontana Italian restaurant in downtown Wollongong. Surrounded by beautiful young ladies all having a good time on a Saturday night. We felt right at home! But where were the men, I wondered? Sitting at home watching “Top Gear” and the Rugby. So what’s wrong with that!
The service was fine after the young Italian waiter worked out we were not armed and dangerous. We had the fixed menu – a steal at $39 for three courses. Chilli prawns, John Dory and my favourite tiramisu all washed down with excellent BYO wine.
Then next door to the Ivory Nightclub for dancing. Safe, secure and lots of women all dancing. Again we felt right at home! The girls were intrigued and we came close to being adopted! My only concern with Ivory was the DJ playlist – we have to get it back to the seventies - the greatest decade for music, dancing, fashion, culture, booze, pot. Oh yeah!
The first restaurant night in the Gong was a small acorn and full credit to Letty for planting it. May a giant oak grow. Whatever! But if there is to be another, there needs to be more support, girls.
Question time. How do we get girls to come to these nights? Is it the NIMBY problem? Not in my back yard? The “country town” issue? And let’s face it, Wollongong is still a large country town in some ways. And a steel town to boot. Sure there is some homophobia and, as we all know dressing, is way way worse!
But nothing happened. Nobody recognised us. I had more chance of being sprung through my past contacts with TAFE and the university down there. There was no problem. Bottom line, we had a great time!
Yes, I know. “It don’t come easy” George Harrison 1973.

| Sounds loke a great night. Will try to make the next one. How about some suggestion for accomodation. Need some where to dress, make up and flop at the end. |
