That's the trouble with transitioning....the constant and relentless fears of almost everything. From your post I suggest you see a gender counsellor. You have reached the scary part and really need to really determine who you are (since you are questioning) Don't assume anything, you will find out in due course. |

Sarah,
not sure what area you are in but if you anywhere near Newcastle I can recommend the counsellor at ACON in Islington. Her name is Cath.
ph 02 49276808.
Also in Newcastle is Dr Larry Brash. He is a phych with experience in TG/TS issues. ph 02 49616664.
Best of luck

Quite an old post, but I really really hope this information is still valid!
Thank you so much, I am from Newcastle myself and I guess I'm at the very initial stages of transitioning (let's just say I've been self-medicating on hormones for the last 8 months).
I've been really wanting to get in contact with someone for some guidance and whatnot, as at the moment I feel kind of stuck where I am.
Similar to the original poster - fears of transitioning. The thing is, deep down I know it's right, but there's so much on the surface (parents, family, friends, study, work, etc) that makes it quite a scary process. I know I have to do it and soon, while I'm still young (21 at the moment). It's quite conflicting, having bottled up thoughts & feelings for so long and wanting to transition deep down, but then various worries/concerns on the surface getting in the way. |

Hi Girls
Well, after putting it off for way too long, I finally booked in to see someone at the ACT ACON.
I was pretty nervous about it actually, but with the support (as always) of my SO, I saw the counsellor last Wed
I have to say, having seen a number of counsellors and psychologists over the years, this one was great! I Thoroughly recommend them, have made another booking and will make the effort to get up there regularly.
Here's the website:
http://www.aidsaction.org.au/content/council_services/cssu/counselling.php
So what happened?
Well, it so happens that my SO and I are getting married in Oct, which is really a great thing. I will be the groom/en homme, which is not a entirely bad thing (male mode doesn't have to be drab mode!). The whole thing was leading me to question myself, my identity, life, the universe and everything, which is to be expected as we are both taking it very seriously.
What the counsellor showed me was how (it's so obvious really!) the wedding was all about us, reflected our relationship and values in all ways except... Sarah... So, a second ceremony (which we have discussed but I thought was a bit over indulgent and silly) with the right friends in which my SO and I (Sarah) commit to each each other actually makes a lot of sense.
It's all really obvious actually but sometimes you need someone skilled to help you see what's right in front of you!
As for transitioning, we touched on it and will take it up on my next appointment in Sept.
Anyhoo, thanks to all the TR community for existing - absolutely invaluable - and to those who offered such good advice
love
