This morning we were chatting to the lady in the local Vinnies whilst I bought up her stock of clip-on earrings. It turns out that she's aware of the tranny scene, and mentioned a club called Castro's in Wollongong. I've just looked them up on Google, and it appears that they have a TG night every Saturday called 'Glamourous'. Has anyone any experience of this? I can find no reference to it in the group archioves, and wondered if anyone here had ever tried it out. Mrs Rachel and I might give it a go sometime ...
Thanks. |

Well, we tried it last night.
Castro's itself is a nice venue, just on the edge of the Wollongong CBD. We arrived just before it opened and had no trouble parking on-street. It also looked like there was a car-park over the road as well. It's not a busy area either.
Entry is free before 11pm. The drinks ran to $6 for a bottle of beer, a Red Bull or a mineral water. I don't have enough experience of club prices in this area to know how they stack up with other places.
The place itself consist of three areas. You enter into a spacious lounge with comfortable sofa seating and tables. You can hear the music here, but it's no so loud that you can't talk, so it's a pleasant place to socialise.
Through the lounge is the main part of the club, with some more seating, the bar and a smallish dance-floor. Fairly loud in here when things get going. There is also an upstairs area, but that was closed last night. Apparently it has, we were told 'poles and cages'. We didn't enquire further.
As I said, it's a nice venue.
As for the tranny night? Well, it was night, and I was the tranny. The only one there. Otherwise the venue had a mixed clientele of gay guys and lesbians, with a few hangers-on and, from what we could see, two other straight couples. It didn't stop us having a good time, and chatting to some interesting people, but we went hoping to meet other TGs and were disappointed on that front. Now, either they never go there, or there aren't any other TGs in Wollongong, or each week one of them turns up, sees that they are the only person there, and then never goes again.
Anyway, we might go again, because as clubs go it wasn't too crowded. My wife felt there was more of an 'edge' to the place than other clubs we've been to. People's behaviour was more overt. But we didn't feel any threat or hostility, so regarded it as 'safe'.
So, possibly somewhere to try as a group outing, but not somewhere to go as a night out if you're by yourself, unless gay clubs happen to be your thing; expect to be the only TG In The Village |
