The forum is for the exchange of useful information not social chat.
Why? Because the forum is a very inefficient way of storing a single line comment on the server (it gets indexed, is stored for a very long time, included in the digests to every member, and then is displayed with a size determined by the profile avitars).
That's why we have a chat room to chat.

So when the system warns you that your forum post is too short - consider if you are adding real long term value to the web site or just chatting.
And just quoting lots of text to get by the limit might seem clever - but remember the moderators can see it and might just chop your post anyway.

Use the web site facilities thoughtfully and everyone benefits.

As a follow up can I state the obvious - that extensive quoting to get the size of your posting up is not within the spirit of the forum.

At some stage we will try and exclude quoted text from the message counts..
but till then remember that we will just delete any posts that are too short (unless clearly with important content), or which achieve the required minimum size by quoting.

Remember there is always PM, email and the chat room to communicate in a way that isn't permanently recorded and indexed in the forum.
